Auto-post to eBay from a photo

Take a photo of the item, or scan its barcode. Listem writes the listing, picks the eBay category, lists the item specifics eBay asks for and suggests a price. You check it, tap Publish, and it goes live on eBay through eBay's official selling API. There's no copying and pasting into eBay's form.

How it works

1. Connect eBay once. Tap Connect eBay and sign in on eBay's own page. Listem never sees your eBay password, and you can disconnect at any time.
2. Snap a photo or scan a barcode. Listem writes the title (up to eBay's 80 characters), the description and the item specifics, and gives three prices based on similar listings it found.
3. Tap Review & publish to eBay. Edit the title, price and description, choose the condition and add more photos (eBay takes up to 24).
4. Check the eBay category. Listem asks eBay which categories fit your title and selects the best match. You can pick another from the list, or ask for men's, women's, kids' or unisex suggestions.
5. Fill in the required item specifics. Listem shows the ones eBay requires for that category, such as size or department, so eBay doesn't reject the listing.
6. Tap Publish. The listing goes live on eBay and Listem gives you the link to it. Nothing is posted before you tap Publish.

What Listem sets up for you

• Postage, payment and returns: Listem uses the business policies on your eBay account. If you have several, it takes the first of each kind, preferring a postage policy that posts the item over collection only.
• Business policies switched on: if your account hasn't opted in to business policies yet, Listem opts in for you. It's free, and it's the same switch eBay's Seller Hub uses.
• Item location: if your account has no item location yet, Listem creates one from the address registered on your eBay account.
• Condition: some eBay categories, like pre-owned clothes and shoes, only accept certain conditions. If eBay turns down the one you chose, Listem tries the nearest one that category accepts.
• No leftovers: if eBay refuses a listing, Listem removes the unfinished copy, so trying again doesn't leave duplicates behind on your account.

What your eBay account needs

• An eBay account you can sell from.
• A postage, a payment and a returns policy. If you have none, Listem tells you where to make them: in Seller Hub, go to Account → Business policies. eBay can take a few minutes to make new policies available.
• Your postcode on the account (Account → Addresses), so eBay knows where the item is.

If anything is missing, Listem says exactly what, and doesn't create anything on eBay until it's sorted.

Is auto-posting allowed on eBay?

Yes, when it goes through eBay's API. Listem connects with eBay's own sign-in and lists through eBay's official selling API. That's the route eBay provides for apps to list on a seller's behalf. It isn't a bot clicking through the eBay website or a browser extension filling in eBay's form.

Looking for eBay's own "auto-posting"?

eBay uses the same words for something different. In Seller Hub, under Marketing → Social, eBay's Auto-posting shares the first few listings you create each day to the social accounts you link, such as Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest. It promotes listings that already exist; it doesn't write or create them. Listem does the other half: it creates the eBay listing itself from your photo.

Limits and plans

• Free: 2 listings and 2 eBay posts a day.
• Casual (£7.99/month): 10 listings and 10 eBay posts a day.
• Premium (£24.99/month): unlimited listings and eBay posts, plus bulk mode: write a batch of listings, check them on one screen and publish them all together.

A post only counts towards your daily limit once it's actually on eBay. A listing eBay turns down doesn't use one up. The daily eBay post limit resets at midnight UTC.
